NLGLA will honor Urvashi Vaid, Executive Director of the Arcus Foundation, for her work as an attorney and as an activist. NLGLA recognizes that her work in the LGBT community has been fundamental to our successes and further, to the integrity of our profession.
Please join us in a celebratory luncheon honoring Urvashi Vaid on Saturday September 9th, 2006 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

Atty. Vaid will share comments and Atty. Anthony Romero, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union will introduce Atty. Vaid upon presentation of the award.

The Top Five Things Law Students Can Do to Address the Discrimination Inherent in the Solomon Amendment
In response to inquiries from law students, faculty, staff and supporters about what to do next (in addition to protest) following the decision in FAIR upholding the Solomon Amendment, Lavender Law is presenting a training that will teach why these constituencies are uniquely situated to advocate for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" while giving them concrete strategies and tools for doing so. Thursday, September 7th, 2006, at Lavender Law.

Students should already have plans underway to get supplemental funding from their law school's various accounts, student groups, lesbian and gay bar associations, or other sources. Students must plan ahead, given that Lavender Law is earlier this year.

Student Elections!
The National Lesbian and Gay Law Association will once again conduct its annual election for two Law Student Division representatives on the Board of Directors at Lavender Law 2006 - Washington DC. Candidates must be attending Lavender Law to participate in the election. One position will specialize in liaison responsibilities to the ABA while the other position will focus on executing the Michael Greenberg Writing Competition. Duties begin at Lavender Law 2006 and continue to Lavender Law 2007, and attendance is required at the Board of Directors meetings held in conjunction with the ABA Mid-Year Conference (Miami, February 10th and 11th) and the Annual Conference (San Francisco, August 10th - 11th). Travel costs are defrayed by the ABA and the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association. Details will be sent to registrants.
