Just Announced: New Workshops/Speakers

Calpernia Addams

The NLGLA is happy to announce some exciting new additions to our programming for Lavender Law 2008. First, actress, author, activist and decorated war veteran, Ms. Calpernia Addams will be hosting Friday's Transgender Lunch alongside Jody M. Huckaby, the Executive Director for PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays). Ms. Addams will also be serving as the master of ceremonies for Thursday's 20th Anniversary Creative Black Tie Dinner Dance.

Two new panels have also been added to the series of concurrent workshops:  “Advanced Trust, Estate and Probate Planning” and the Junior Scholars Forum.  The former will provide an in-depth exploration of the challenges caused by limited recognition of same-sex relationships and is intended for experienced practitioners.  The latter will provide an opportunity for a select group of young scholars to receive guidance from some of the nation’s leading LGBT academics.

To see the complete list of plenary sessions, concurrent workshops and speakers for Lavender Law 2008, or to download the continuing legal education (CLE) materials that will be used in the workshops, please use the following links:

Back for 2008: Career Counseling Project

The NLGLA is proud to be providing this valuable service for our Lavender Law student attendees.  The Individual Career Counseling Project is designed to provide students with a safe, confidential space where they can ask questions about job search skills, being out on your resume, in interviews and in the workplace, and other related issues.

In conjunction with the Career Fair, students will have the opportunity to meet on-site with legal career service professionals. These legal career counselors are qualified to provide students with advice on resume, cover letter, and interviewing, plus these counselors all have significant workplace experience in various legal sectors, including LGBT advocacy groups, big firms, and the government.

When students check-in at registration, they may sign up for a scheduled appointment with the counselor of your choice. Each of the scheduled appointments will be 30 minutes in length. Some counselors will also be available on a “walk-in” basis for quick questions you may have in connection with the career fair itself.

To see the list of the career counselors signed up to participate in this exciting new program or to see the list of the firms and organizations that will be participating in the Lavender Law 2008 career fair, please use the following:
