Happy New Year from the NLGLA

Calpernia Addams, 2008 Career Fair and Conference 20th Anniversary Gala in San FranciscoAs 2008 winds to a close, the NLGLA invites you to relive some of your favorite moments from this year’s highly successful events.  Whether it was Calpernia Addams ruling the dance floor, Shannon Minter and Therese Stewart’s (this year’s Dan Bradley Award recipients) rousing remarks at our 20th Anniversary Celebration, the record number of recruiters at the Annual Career Fair and Conference in San Francisco, the LGBT corporate counsel community honoring Richard Parent at the Out & Proud In-House Counsel Reception, or the amazing spirit of solidarity demonstrated by Veta Richardson (this year’s Allies for Justice Award recipient), there were many moments in 2008 worth celebrating.

2008 Allies for Justice Award Recipient Veta Richardson (Executive Director, Minority Corporate Counsel Association)We look forward to seeing you at our events in 2009, including the Annual Career Fair and Conference (September 10-12th in Brooklyn, NY) and the 2009 Allies for Justice Award Reception to be held at the American Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in Chicago.  In the coming year, the NLGLA will be further developing our In-House Counsel Division by featuring additional programs targeted at corporate counsel, including regional in-house counsel receptions.  For the government lawyers in our community, the NLGLA will be launching a division similar to the Estate Planning and Faculty Advisory groups already underway.  The NLGLA will be working even closer with the International Association of Lesbian and Gay Judges to ensure that we are addressing the needs of LGBT members of the Judiciary.

Richard Parent (Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs, Logo TV), Out & Proud In-House Counsel ReceptionAlthough the past year was not without its share of disheartening setbacks, the NLGLA believes the new year holds great potential to be a banner year for LGBT equality.  From pending litigation in the courts to proposed legislation on Capitol Hill, the stage is set for the LGBT legal community to deliver some major victories for the community.

Stay tuned for some exciting changes from the NLGLA and best wishes for the new year!
