General Attendance Sessions (To Be Announced)
The deadline to submit a workshop proposal for the 2010 Lavender Law conference is Tuesday, January 26th!
The National LGBT Bar Association, through its annual conference, provides a challenging and rewarding learning experience for our attendees and presenters. To cater to our highly diverse demographic of practitioners, legal scholars, members of the judiciary and law students, the latter of whom make up half of the conference attendees, both introductory and advanced content will be presented.
This year’s conference will feature workshops on cutting edge legal issues affecting LGBT individuals, families and the community. Topics covered in recent years have included: same-sex marriage, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), diversity on the bench, HIV/AIDS, immigration, the first amendment, intimate partner violence and seminars designed to guide those interested in pursuing a career as a solo practitioner, legal scholar, law firm attorney or member of the judiciary.
The LGBT Bar is deeply committed to providing workshops that include diverse perspectives on each panel. Workshop proposal submissions that include a combination of practitioners, legal scholars, and members of the judiciary, as well as women and racial or ethnic minorities, will be given heightened consideration.
We look forward to your submissions and to making the 2010 Lavender Law Conference our best yet!
Submit a 2009 Continuing Legal Education Workshop Proposal
The deadline for submissions is January 26, 2010.
Tips for successfully submitting a workshop proposal:
- Each workshop will be 90 minutes, the final 5-10 of which will be reserved for questions.
- The topic should appeal to a broad audience by featuring recent legal developments in LGBT law, cutting-edge legal strategies, or content that attendees are likely to utilize outside the conference.
- We would like the programs to showcase the content of the topic as well as the proposed speakers’ expertise.
- Your proposal should include speakers who are the indisputable experts in their respective fields. Whenever possible, try to include speakers with a diverse perspective based on his or her ethnicity, gender, location, employer type and size, etc. Please contact us should you require assistance identifying such a speaker. The LGBT Bar may add additional speakers, including academics or members of the judiciary as necessary.
- Workshops with an interactive format, as opposed to lecture style, will be given heightened consideration. Involving the audience in an appropriate exercise or activity would increase the practical value of your workshop.
- The individual submitting the workshop proposal must be willing to accept responsibilities associated with the panel and meet related deadlines should the program be accepted. Failure to execute these responsibilities may result in your workshop being cancelled. Please note: If accepted, the LGBT Bar staff is committed to helping make your workshop a success, but resources will be limited.
- All workshops must submit continuing legal education (CLE) materials. Digital copies of all CLE materials must be received by the LGBT Bar no later than April 30, 2010. The LGBT Bar reserves the right to cancel any workshops that do not submit CLE materials by April 30, 2010.
- If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
