About the Committee

One of the most exciting developments over the past year has been the growth of our corporate counsel division, comprised of professionals from around the country to address the specific needs of the LGBT corporate legal community. The group has produced a clearinghouse for networking events acknowledging leaders in the profession from “Out & Proud” general counsel to straight allies, and is committed to helping inform clients that LGBT diversity in the profession is crucial to their business case.

The division’s growth has been made possible through our extensive work with minority bar associations. Specifically, for the last three years, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) has generously hosted an Out & Proud In House Counsel Reception at its “Pathways to Diversity” conference held in November. Similar events planned for 2010 will be held in Los Angeles (March 25th) and San Francisco (June). These events will be cosponsored by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC).

In 2009, the LGBT Bar held a joint reception with the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association which features a robust and vibrant corporate counsel division. This year, we will continue our work with other minority bar associations, such as the Hispanic National Bar Association and the National Bar Association, to further build on our success.
