Programs
Legal Compliance Issues (1:15 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.)
Companies strive to comply with all major regulations, but with large, complex organizations it becomes difficult to prioritize and oversee each and every ethical matter. Issues like whistleblower claims, third-party interactions and federal funding constantly crop up, but how do officers accurately judge importance? International regulators have begun to tighten their focus on relationships between corporations and emerging markets, corporate officers are under increased governmental scrutiny to identify violations due to the Responsible Corporate Officer Doctrine and companies must continually adapt or face the consequences. Additionally, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act is a point of emphasis as corporations must learn how to conduct their business abroad without engaging in any illegal activities. Learn how to minimize risk by dealing with problems early and continuing to grow your organization’s business.
Speakers: Charles Berardesco, David Gonzalez, Fauzia Zaman-Malik, Sharon Zealey
Finding the Best Diverse Legal Service Providers (2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
Every corporate counsel needs to know how to identify, evaluate and select help from outside firms. As companies continue to put an emphasis on diversity, it is important to learn how to meet mandates while still ensuring that high standards are achieved. Increasingly, organizations are creating formal diversity policies and tracking compliance. Clients now take a closer look at corporate diversity and demand a higher standard when evaluating corporations. Panelists will discuss the best ways to recognize and develop diverse legal service providers within the context of directives and client satisfaction.
Speakers: Theodore Furman, Julius Towers, Michelle Waites
Effective Collaboration between Law Firms and Corporate Legal Departments (3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Working with corporate legal departments is an important way for firms to diversify their clientele. Outside counsel can enhance a company’s legal department, but only through a mutual partnership. However, despite the benefits associated with outsourcing, a number of questions still remain. How does a firm determine if they are a good fit for a corporation? What role does diversity play? Learn strategies for identifying the right legal departments for your law firm and what steps both sides can take to ensure shared benefits. Law firm partners and members of corporate legal departments will discuss how to stand out, what to advertise and how to begin a lasting partnership.
Outside counsel from firms participating in our partnership program will be invited to attend the final workshop.
Speakers: Larry Chanen, Darek DeFreece, Phylliss DelGreco, Greg McCurdy
