Announce New Board Members
WASHINGTON—The National Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Bar Association announced the appointment of four new members to its board of directors today. In addition, two other directors have been appointed to the National LGBT Bar Foundation board.
“We are absolutely thrilled to bring leaders with such vast and diverse experiences to the LGBT Bar,” said Executive Director D’Arcy Kemnitz. “Under the new leadership, we are better positioned than ever to expand the services available to our members, and to be the leading voice of LGBT legal issues in the United States.”
New members of the National LGBT Bar Association board of directors include:
Jeff Wolf, Board Secretary. A member of the LGBT Bar affiliate QLaw in Seattle, Washington, Wolf started his practice as a deputy prosecuting attorney. He is a member attorney at Williams Kastner where he represents various clients in matters involving products liability and toxic torts.
James W. Gilliam, At Large Director. An associate in the Los Angeles office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, Gilliam serves as the Associate Pro Bono and Community Involvement Coordinator. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Loyola Law School, where he teaches seminars on Sexual Orientation and the Law and Public Interest Law Practice.
Kevin Ray, At Large Director. Practicing in the Philadelphia office of Greenberg Traurig LLP, Kevin Ray focuses on corporate bankruptcy, business reorganization, corporate finance and secured lending. He concentrates his pro bono work in the areas of HIV/AIDS law, First Amendment law and Art law.
Jeff Schimelfenig, At Large Director. Schimelfenig is the Washington DC-based National Director of Project Management for Kelly Law Registry. He is a past board member of LGBT Bar affiliate GAYLAW in Washington DC.
New additions to the National LGBT Bar Foundation board of directors include:
Irene Recio A former At Large Director of the LGBT Bar Association, Recio will move to the board of the National LGBT Bar Foundation. Based at the Washington DC firm, Reed Smith LLP, Recio focuses her practice on immigration law, with an emphasis on employment issues and consular processing. She has also represented clients seeking political asylum in the United States on the basis of prior persecution as a result of political opinion, gender, religion, and sexual orientation.
Skip Horne is the Global Recruiting Manager for New York’s Latham & Watkins LLP, where he supports the firm’s efforts in diversity hiring, law school and LLM outreach, and international hiring for over 2,300 attorneys in 28 offices worldwide. Horne was President of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) in 2002-03 and has the honor of being the association’s first openly gay President.
Kemnitz said that the LGBT Bar Association plans to expand member and affiliate services in the year ahead, including new opportunities for Continuing Legal Education programs and national networking opportunities. “Our new directors will be crucial in helping the LGBT Bar expand and improve our services,” Kemnitz said.
The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists, and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal organizations. The association promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBT community in all its diversity.
